Why Stacey Slamka Supports Tunnel to Towers Foundation

Stacey Slamka · September 22, 2025 · Leave a Comment

Each of us has a way we try to make a difference. For Stacey Slamka, that difference comes with every step—running, walking, fundraising and lending a voice to causes she believes in. At the heart of her efforts is the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a nonprofit whose mission aligns deeply with Stacey’s values of service, sacrifice and community.

Stacey Slamka Running

For many, running is about personal fitness or reaching a new goal. For Stacey Slamka, running is about something bigger — it’s a way to give back. Stacey has built her passion for running and walking into a platform for change, using every step to raise awareness and funds for causes that transform lives.

One of the most meaningful causes Runner Stacey Slamka supports is the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Established to honor firefighter Stephen Siller, who gave his life saving lives on September 11, 2001, the foundation carries forward his legacy of selfless service. Today, Tunnel to Towers provides mortgage-free homes to Gold Star families and builds specially adapted smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. Their mission is simple but profound: to stand with those who have sacrificed everything for our safety.

Stacey Slamka’s participation in the Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk is more than a race — it’s a demonstration of solidarity. By showing up, fundraising and running alongside other supporters, Slamka helps ensure that military families, first responders and veterans are given not just recognition, but real, tangible support in the form of stable housing.

What Tunnel to Towers Does — And Why It Matters

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation was founded to honor the memory of firefighter Stephen Siller, who sacrificed his life on September 11, 2001, one of the brave responders who died running into danger rather than away from it.

Today, the foundation carries forward that spirit through impact-driven programs such as:

  • Mortgage-free homes for Gold Star families (families of fallen servicemembers or first responders) and families whose first responder was lost in the line of duty.
  • Smart homes for veterans and first responders who have been catastrophically injured, adapted with technology and accessibility features so they can live more independently.
  • Programs focused on ending veteran homelessness, offering supportive housing and case management.
  • Educational initiatives, remembrance efforts, and other community outreach to keep alive the legacy and lessons of 9/11.

Their scale is significant: the foundation has committed over $1 billion+ to its programs, with a high rate of direct funding going straight into mission work.

Tunnel to Towers doesn’t just say “we remember” — they act in tangible, lasting ways. And Stacey Slamka is increasingly more and more proud to support that initiative — in every way she can, as a runner, as a supporter and as a person who cares.
