This year is the year you take on Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, Idaho and Montana! But before you set off on your adventure, heed these warnings for experienced hiking enthusiast, Stacey Slamka:
Dunraven Pass is Still Closed
Although all roads leading to Yellowstone National Park are now open for the summer season, Dunraven Pass is still closed. Connecting Canyon to Tower-Rooesevelt, Dunraven Pass is a mountain pass at Yellowstone National Park in the region of the Park located in Wyoming. Part of the Rocky Mountains, Dunraven Pass features spectacular views and challenging trails. But, you won’t be able to visit the Pass just yet. Stacey Slamka will share an update once it is open.
Watch Out for Elk with Calves
Though they are majestic creatures Stacey Slamka loves to marvel over, elk can be extremely dangerous. The hiker warns all visitors of Yellowstone National Park to be on the lookout for elk — especially those traveling with calves. During this time of year, elk are particularly in abundance throughout the Mammoth Hot Springs area. Claves are likely to hide under vehicles, close to buildings and around blind corners. Be sure to be on the lookout!
Biscuit Basin is Closed
The Biscuit Basin Geyser in Wyoming is currently closed. This Basin is located north of Old Faithful. However, if you were hoping to visit the Geyser during your upcoming hiking trip, you won’t be able to. The area is currently closed due to a hydrothermal explosion. On July 23, 2024, a hydrothermal explosion occurred in the area; Park Rangers believe another similar event is possible, which is why it is currently closed to the public.
